KPL spot-fixing GCA sacks Ranji player CM Gautam

Both Gautam, who had moved to Goa, and Kazi, who represents Mizoram, had been named in their respective state squads for the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Twenty20 tournament, scheduled to begin today at various venues. He has shifted to Goa in the domestic season.

Police said the two were involved in fixing in the KPL 2019 final between Bellary Tuskers and Hubli Tigers after accepting Rs 20 lakh each for slow batting. According to the police, Shekhawat was the link between bookies and Vinu Prasad, a Bengaluru Blasters bowling coach, who was arrested in October along with batsman Vishwanath, formerly with the same team.

The 33-year old Gautam is a seasoned campaigner having turned up for Delhi Daredevils, Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL.

"The CCB has made two important arrests in the KPL spot-fixing scandal", Sandeep Patil, the Joint Commissioner of Police, told ESPNcricinfo.

The Karnataka state cricket association (KSCA) on Friday suspended Belagavi Panthers franchise from the KPL league for their alleged involvment in match fixing. At the time, Gautam was also the captain of his team, who lost that game by 8 runs. After being involved in the spot-fixing scandal, Belagavi Panthers have found themselves in more trouble with the recent statement issued by the KSCA. And that's what they did in the match. Investigations are still going on and further arrests are likely to happen sooner. More arrests are expected, the CCB said. Three others including the owner of the Belagavi team, have been arrested in the past couple of months since the scandal came to light. Also, Kazi moved across to Nagaland past year and was a success as he scored three scores of more than150 scores as a middle-order batsman. Gautam was a long-term deputy of Vinay Kumar, and stood in for him in three matches 2013, captaining a team with the likes of Robin Uthappa, KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal, and Manish Pandey. Severe actions would be taken against each individual if they are found guilty.
