Matthew Stafford traveled to Chicago to help backup QB

Mitchell Trubisky

There is legitimate concern surrounding Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford's status heading into the Week 10 matchup with the Chicago Bears, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Lions QB has fractured bones in his back and now is considered week to week.

That streak may be in doubt Sunday against the Chicago Bears as Stafford deals with a back injury.

Backup Jeff Driskel is expected to get the start in Detroit.

Stafford has been a regular on the Lions' injury report since two days before the team's September 27 game against the Kansas City Chiefs, when he popped up with a hip injury that left him questionable to play in that weekend's game. Practiced on limited all week, listed him as questionable.

"I'll be good to go", Stafford said Wednesday.

That Saturday, ESPN reported Stafford was being told not to play against the Bears, but he was hoping to play through the pain like always. "Something different, but I'm totally good".

In eight games this season, the 31-year-old has thrown for 2499 yards, and 19 touchdowns. That's the second-longest active streak by a QB in the National Football League behind Phillip Rivers.

"It means a lot, obviously", Stafford said last week.

Ryan's streak of 154 consecutive starts came to an end last month because of an ankle injury.

"I don't think there is anything this man hates more than to not be out there battling with his guys".

Stafford, who has three seasons left on his current contract beyond 2019, had not missed a start for the Lions since 2010. Yet in the week leading up to the Bears game, Stafford was practicing through the pain and telling reporters he was fine.

Stafford's last missed start came 3,234 days ago, on January 2, 2011.
