Ohio State’s Chase Young out vs. Maryland over possible NCAA violation

Report: OSU's Young facing indefinite ban

He had tied Ohio State's single-game records for sacks (four) and tackles for loss (five) in the Buckeyes' last game, a 38-7 win over Wisconsin on October 26.

Ohio State star Chase Young won't play Saturday vs. Maryland while the school looks into a "possible NCAA issue from 2018", it was announced Friday.

The athletic department said in a statement that Young won't play "due to a possible NCAA issue from 2018 that the Department of Athletics is looking into".

Young leads FBS with 13.5 sacks, has put himself in the Heisman Trophy conversation and certainly is on the short list of contenders to be the No. 1 overall pick in April should he forego his senior season.

No. 1 Ohio State travels to SHI Stadium a week from Saturday to face the Scarlet Knights, the final tune-up before a brutal two-game stretch - against No. 4 Penn State and at MI - to end the season.

Young has been the dominant defensive player of the 2019 college football season.

Sources told the Buckeyes-centric website that the violation was unclear but the program remains optimistic that Young would be back on the field at some point this season.

After playing Maryland at home this week, Ohio State travels to Rutgers before finishing with perhaps the two toughest games on its schedule: home against Penn State - No. 4 in the initial CFP rankings - and at MI. News 5 will update this as more information becomes available.
