The Vietnamese victims of UK truck tragedy

Essex truck death victims include 10 teenagers, two as young as 15: British police

United Kingdom police on Friday released names of the Vietnamese nationals whose bodies were found in a refrigerated truck in southern England last month. It may be noted that several Vietnamese families had come forward with reports of missing relatives in the aftermath of the tragic incident.

Essex police had worked with Vietnamese authorities to identify the victims, using fingerprints, DNA, medical and dental records.

British police on Friday named the 39 Vietnamese people who died in a refrigerated truck last month, with the youngest aged just 15 and many of them from the same province.

Some of the relatives who spoke to AFP were anxious about how to repay thousands of dollars of debt their children took on for the ill-fated trip.

Ten teenagers, including two 15-year-old boys, were among the victims whose bodies were found on October 23 in a container in the southeastern English region of Essex. "Mom, I love you and dad very much".

"This is an important step in the investigation and enables us to work with our Vietnamese Police colleagues to support the families of those victims", Assistant Chief Constable Tim Smith said.

Her Majesty's Senior Coroner, Caroline Beasley-Murray said, "May I take this opportunity to offer my deepest condolences to the victims' families".

Police are nonetheless looking two males from Northern Eire, Ronan Hughes, 40 and his brother Christopher Hughes, 34, whereas a number of others have been arrested in Vietnam. "Mom, I'm so sorry".

Police said Robinson drove the cab of the truck to Purfleet, England, where he picked up the container, which had arrived by ferry from Zeebrugge in Belgium. Two men from Northern Ireland, including the truck's driver, appeared in court facing charges of 39 counts of manslaughter, as well as human trafficking and immigration offenses.

Families in Vietnam have set up altars with incense and photos of their loved ones, praying for their return.

The names of the 39 Vietnamese found dead in the back of a lorry in Grays, near London, have been released by the British police.

Father Simon Thang Duc Nguyen, a Roman Catholic priest who organized the ceremony, said the community never thought such a great number of people could die in a single incident.
