WhatsApp Business app gets new catalog feature

WhatsApp adds shopping catalogue feature on its app for businesses

Customers can easily browse a business's offerings right within WhatsApp, without having to visit the website.

This will save users and businesses time wasted sending images of products, their respective price tags and their specifications.

But by using this feature, customers can see their full catalog right within WhatsApp. This is a more professional-looking way for businesses to engage with their clients and keep them invested in the chat.

Catalogs include lists of photos, prices and descriptions of products and services, plus SKU codes to identify specific products.

Availability: For now, the catalog feature is available in India, Brazil, Germany, Indonesia, Mexico, the United Kingdom and the USA, on both Android and iOS.

According to WhatsApp, the newly added feature will make it easier for users to learn about the products and services offered by businesses on the app in both Android and iOS running devices. These businesses can now use WhatsApp's catalog feature to create sort-of an online portal that users can explore and make purchases from. WhatsApp states that the whole objective of WhatsApp catalogs is to showcase and share what products and services businesses offer. The new feature will allow small business to showcase and share their goods to their customers through the application.

Earlier in 2019, Instagram stepped into a similar game with its "Checkout" feature to let users buy products from their favourite brands, without leaving the app interface. The feature is available in India along with Brazil, Germany, Indonesia, Mexico, the U.K and the US. It will be rolled out across the world soon. The company says it will host these catalogs on its own servers so merchants and customers don't have to waste storage on their devices by exchanging product images, etc. It is likely to help small businesses on the app who might not have the resources to create a website to showcase their products.
