Whistleblower's lawyer sends cease and desist letter to White House: repott

He says that, if House investigators want to see a summary of the April 21 call, he has "no problem" giving it to them.

He's also criticizing Democrats in the House for planning public hearings, even though the White House pushed for them to happen. Pence called the impeachment inquiry a "disgrace".

Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Vindman, an NSC official who testified before the committees later in October, said in his testimony that Hill, his supervisor, raised concerns to Sondland after Sondland raised the prospect of Ukraine opening investigations in exchange for a White House visit.

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, walks to a secure area at the Capitol to interview a witness in the House impeachment inquiry in Washington on November 6, 2019.

She did not know of any request from Trump to Pence to bring up investigations during a meeting the vice president had in Warsaw with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on September 1.

Trump has denied doing anything wrong.

Jennifer Williams, a career foreign service officer and special adviser to Pence for Europe and Russian Federation, was testifying in a closed-door hearing in front of members of the House of Representatives Foreign Affairs, Intelligence and Oversight committees after receiving a subpoena to compel her testimony.

The Democrats will ask the diplomats to discuss their understanding of events before and after a July 25 phone call between Trump and Zelenskiy.

Acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney has stood up Democrats in their impeachment inquiry, skipping his 9 a.m. deposition as Democrats wrap up closed-door interviews and move into a public phase of the investigation. "For that reason, Mr.Mulvaney seeks to intervene here", wrote Mulvaney's lawyers.

The top US diplomat in Ukraine, William Taylor, is considered a critical witness to the case against Trump.

Another senior USA diplomat, George Kent, will appear with Taylor at Wednesday's hearing.

Last month in a White House press briefing, Mr. Mulvaney linked the almost $400 million in delayed military aid for Ukraine to the administration's desire for an investigation into the 2016 election and whether DNC servers were located in the country.

In a letter sent on Wednesday to Devin Nunes, the top Republican on the House Intelligence Committee and a strong Trump supporter, the whistleblower's lawyers reiterated that their client was willing to answer written questions. Marie Yovanovitch, who was abruptly pulled from her post as USA ambassador to Ukraine in May, will testify on Nov 15.

Republicans are already attacking the Democratic witnesses, saying that Yovanovitch's recall as ambassador was a side issue, and that other witnesses' knowledge of key events was largely third-hand.

Kent told investigators that that was his understanding of what Trump wanted Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskiy to say in order to unlock US military aid, as relayed to the official by others, including those in direct contact with the president.
